A Photomosaic combines the art of photography with the science of image computing to produce original works of art. A Photomosaic works by arranging thousands of tiny photographs that when viewed from a distance, combine to form a single larger image. The technology was patented in 2000 and licensed by Digital artistCraig Adam in 2005 when he launched Mosaic Legends.
In this piece titled "Touch of Grey", Craig Adam worked with music photographer Jay Blakesberg's Jerry Garcia & Grateful Dead archive. The images span from 1977 through 1995 and document an enormous portion of Jerry's and the Dead's careers. The mosaic is made up of 3504 individual tiles, with approximately 1000 different images.
